Farmall Cub

Does anyone know where I can purchase lightning rod components? When I reroofed my barn, I pushed aside what components were still there (cable, still attached to ground basically), but much was missing. I'd like to put it back together with replacement rods and brackets, and of course the glass balls. I know nothing about it's design - any resources would be helpful.

If he hasn't retired yet, a HS classmate couple of mine own a company that even made all the cast brass componets for lightning rod systems. It's a lightning rod company that has been in business for well over a century. It's Burkett Industries (419) 332-4391

There are several sites (google) that sell lightning rod components.

Just curious. I stopped looking when the price of one ball was $27.00.

whatever you get, expect to pay a lot. seen'em go at auctions for several hundred dollars. was going to install one on my new home, how ever was adbvised against it for many reasons, first being the cost, second as it designed to attract lightening, some insurance cos will not pay for any damages, imagine that. boy they find any excuse.

Doc, actually it does make since. a hundred or more years ago when lightning rods were popular a barn was normally the tallest structure for miles around, and the chances of it getting hit were surprisingly high, so the lightning rods were a way to carry off the charge. Now in that same area there are frequently hundreds of buildings the same height or higher, to take part of the lightning, so why attract it to you? Kind of like the safety in mubers mentality of a herd.
