Windows XP Service Pack 2

Postby Lurker Carl » Sat Jan 14, 2006 2:42 pm

I loaded the Windows XP update on my computer and it changed some preferences, settings and whatnot. For example, the computer goes to sleep after 5 minutes, even though it's set for never sleep, and it won't wake up! After changing some settings, it's behaving like it should.

Carl,

I've had SP2 loaded for a while and haven't had any problems.

Sometimes its only a small hiccup, and fixes itself.

I’ve had service pack 2 for awhile and I never had that problem, but the security blocks was an issue until I got use to it.

I recently reloaded my puter and it had to reinstall SP2.. I had SP2 before but it had a few hiccups this time, it downloaded updates and upgrades for a long long time. I would have hated to have done it over dail-up. But i did expierience some problems the first day or so after reloading, but once the bugs worked out it went away. Thats seems to be the norm with Microsoft stuff... always a little buggy at first but it smooths out....

When our son was visiting over the holidays he downloaded and installed it. Yes, we're on !#$%^ dialup! :( The download took over 26 hours!

We should be in range for DSL, but SBC would rather spend money convincing people to sign up for DSL than actually making it possible.

Yeah, the SP2 upgrade is a big-un... when i went from SP1 to SP2 the first time i was still on dial-up. I had the IT guy at work burn the upgrade to a CD for me... This time i just let the puter do it on it's own... Even when i did it with the CD it still took 4-6 hours to get all the additional upgrades!!

But with my cable modem, i started it before i went to bed, checked on it and okayed a few things when i got up for my midnight whizz break, and finalized the install before i left for work...

I had to reload after getting infected with a rather nasty adware trojan, i tried to fix it and made a mess of things so figured i'd just reload, took a week to get everything back like i had it... but i was able to save all my files and so forth... freed alot of resources and cleaned alot of garbage off, puter running good now...

I usually have to take my pc to the dr. when it's sick and the last time I was there they told me not to download sp2 because of all the trouble everyone
was having.
Take a little time to play, you don't grow old as fast that way.

As far as I know Microsoft will send you the update SP2 free of charge. I received it in two days.

John, go to 'control panel' under 'settings' in the 'start' menu, or go to it by the 'my computer' page. Click on 'system'. It will tell you the version of windows installed, what service pack, and a little about the computer.
