took me a year or better but I found it!

Postby Indy4570 » Thu Feb 24, 2022 11:41 pm

As many of you know I am sure the market has gone crazy for decent truck. My old dodge broke on me for the last time and I decided I didnt want to push in the clutch anymore, 19 years was long enough. I tried a beater chevy K2500. I ended up throwing so much money at it and it is still useless it made me sick. 3 days ago I bought it. Maybe the last truck I will ever buy.

I bought a 1999 Dodge 1500 extended cab 4 door ( rear suicide doors ). shortbed. It is not the kind of truck I would have seen myself owning. It is not perfect and has some issues that need attention. When I added everything up it was something I decided was more truck and worth the price better than other trucks I have been seeing in comparable condition for several thousand more. I also had to get used to a gas engine and a half ton after most of my life driving at the least 3/4 ton trucks. OK enough suspense, take a gander at the new ride and I will tell you after what it has I could not walk away from.

this truck has a 5.9L. the 360 loves gasoline but, it is rebuilt with only 1940 miles on it. It sports some pretty stainless steel headers, I don't know what other performance items it has but lets just say it is very responsive. the transmission has 6900 miles on a rebuild. ( automatic). OK this truck has new the following items

running boards
upper and lower front bumper covers
front U-joints
front hubs
shocks
lift kit
alloy wheels
tires 285/75r 16s
all seats reupholstered and door panels
new dash
extra leaf spring overloads in the rear
new dual exhaust
new headlights with brighter beam
new (2.5 years old) Bradford Built aluminum treadplate bed.

it has a 30,000 lb gooseneck hitch under a plate door in the bed as well as an integral bumper hitch with 2" insert

It has six flush mount tiedown loops

all in all I think it is a very nice truck for being 23 years old. it is like driving a new truck almost.

Looks nice! At today's prices you can justify keeping the old one a lot longer, I am considering that I may well rebuild my current truck when the time comes, since I really enjoy it and am happy with it. I also have my father's 1990 Jeep Comanche that I am repairing (front end, injectors, and maybe head redone) as it only has 1115,000 miles on the 4.0 six cylinder that you can't kill.

That is a nice looking Dodge!

You must not live where they salt the roads every time it sneezes a dusting of snow like the odot :censored: here in Ohio!

yup yup, drove the six speed 2500 almost 2 decades, its nice to not have to clutch. The cummins cost me a lot to keep it running. this is almost pristine at 2000 miles or so on the engine.

I always thought that was the best generation of the Dodge pickups. I used to push snow with a '94 2500 Cummins 24 valve. That generation truck had the best ride of pickups for that time period. We retired the '94 in 20 when the trans finally gave out at 220k (replaced once at 80k)
