Why does this chat software use GMT?
All this proves is that one gnome pounding on the keyboard for years still will not produce the works of Shakespeare.

All times are GMT based, but as you log on in flash chat, the time you see is your local time based on the Time Zone you have entered in your profile. I am Atlantic Standart Time which is Zulu -4 or GMT-4. Eastern would be Zulu-5 since New York is an hour behind us..
Same applies to the times stamped in your posts on the forums... based on GMT according to the Time Zone in your profile.
