Missouri storms

Postby John *.?-!.* cub owner » Thu Jul 20, 2006 6:07 am

In the late evening yesterday, a large band of severe thunderstomrs formed north of St. Louis, and traveled straight south in a band about 25 miles wide. They covered an area from just north of St. Louis to southern Mo. numerous trees and power lines down, a couple reports of tornadoes, but as yet unconfirmed. approximately 400,000 customer out of power according to Ameren UE. I have a lot of small tree limbs down and the power lines at the upper end of our field are down. UE says it will be days before full power restoral. My old Coleman generator has been humping all night. It can run refrigerator, deep freeze, well pump, etc. but with temps of 102 predicted for today I am sure going to miss my air conditioner.. We still have one neighbor we haven't been able to get in touch with due to road being blocked. Will try to get to them a little later this morning.

Sorry to hear the bad news.
Hope you get tru this ok and that your neighbor is well.

Sounds like it is time for the cub to get a bigger generator fabricated
so you can have all the comforts when the main line is down.
If it's been broken I did it.
If its not broken wait till I touch it.

John,
Very glad to hear you all are OK.
I came down I-44 yesterday and thought about stopping by but I was pushed for time. Your right it was VERY HOT and is going to get hotter here today.(OK City) They say tomorrow will be about 110  I hope you gen keeps up and it dosen't take the power co. as long as projected to get your power back up.
I bought an old tractor all dusty and worn,
knew nothing about her just the year she was born
I washed her and greased her and painted her red
Now she lives happily right here in my shed.

Kodiak, you passed aobut 30 mioes form, too bad you didn't have tiem to stop.

Generator has been running continously for neary 20 hours, with 2 stopd for gas and to check the oil. good news is it only reached 99 today, not the 102 they were predicting. Bad news is they are saying 5 days till pposer in town, don't know how long till out here. More storms comign tonight. I'll shut it down later tonight and leave the gen off till in the mornign. gas is getting hard to get in thsi area. Only 2 stations in town have electric.

John and Brian

I came back in town just after the first blast. Most of the St.Louis area is like you. Things aren’t all that great here as well, but with minimal damage. Last night I had corn stalks in my field lying on the ground. I just went out to take a picture and they are already pulling them selves up. Amazing!!!

My electric suppler is an Electric Cooperative and they reacted much quicker than Ameren UE. (John)I’m really surprised you’re part of the Ameren UE network being so far from St.Louis.

I’m not that far away if you need help. Remember; a road to a friend’s house is never to long.

We got another blast about 10:00 A.M yesterday and it set everything back another two days.

I can only imagine what Merlin went through when that hurricane went through Louisiana.

Blessed silence. We got eelctricity back and the generator is shut down, and has received a well deserved oil change. Almost 3 days of continous running at full load, with only stops to add gas and check oil.

Power crews from all over the sate are in the area, not only ameren UE crews, but coops, etc. By a strange coincidence, one of the guys on the crew from Citizens Electric Coop from SE Mo. that fixed my line remembered me from when I had the radio shop and maintained thier radios over 30 years ago. Small world aint it.

John:

There is a thing about 6 degrees of separation, and yes, the world is a small place. Just had a coincedence happen to me yesterday... it is a small world.

Glad to hear that you are ok and that power is back. For some reason, I have missed this thread.... I hope you all and you too Brian are all ok.

Our weather has been definitely weird the last few years. Could be global warming, could be cyclical in nature - God only knows... but glad that all are well and safe.
