Jan 14 of this year went to doctor with abdominal complaint (not much of one) he scheduled colonoscopy. Doctor discovered stage 3B carsonoma, told me in my current state I had less than 6 weeks if something was not done immediately, did not go home from hospital for 11 days and colon cancer surgery which tood out 16" of colon. After 6 months of chemotheropy I am currently doing exceptionally well considering and recent cat scans show no sign of cancer.

Glad your doing good now. Chemo leaves a few side effects but beats the alternative. I get the complete cat scan every 6 months since my chemo so you will do fine. 5 years cancer free now. Keep your head up and pay attention to the Drs. Good Luck.

Congrats on your recovery. We will pray that it continues. My daughter-in-law who is only 35 was diagnosed early and is a healthy survivor. I just had a scope done a year or so ago. All is well.

I put off mine until this year. At 59 I finally took the advice and got one. I think part of the problem was that I was afraid of what they would find. My mother died of colon cancer. Great news was nothing there and I won't need one for another 8 years. Get it done. They will put you nite nite if you want and you wake up and never know anything was done.
Do it. I hate to see anything happen to my friends.

At 50, my doctor said that from now on that I had to have some "special" exams done every year or so. This is on top of the other regular stuff I have to have checked quarterly and monthly when my med regimen changes. One of theses special exams happens to be a periodic checkup for problems with the colon. Em's uncle battled colon cancer for almost 10 years before the cancer won and Eric lost. He fought like the dickens, but in the end, the cancer proved to be a bit too much.
I agree with the others on this. Do yourself a favour. If you are 50 or over, get a regular annual physical that includes a prostrate exam, blood work to check for problems that early detection can if not cure, at least keep under control. Watch your cholesterol and triglycerides and your sodium/nitrate intake.
If there is a history of cancer in your family, makes sure that your family doctor knows and takes steps to monitor you. If there is a history of heart disease, emphysema, diabetes etc., get it checked out Don't put it off. You will be a much happier camper.

I've got to tell this story;
A few years ago I went to my family doctor for a check up. The physical went fine and everything was good, the doc said I was a "picture of health". He also said that I'm at the age that I should have my prostrate checked. I wasn't too keen on the idea but thought that the doc was right.
Well with all my clothes sitting on a chair next to the examination table the examination was ready to begin. At the exact moment of penetration my cell phone rings, very loud I might add. I said to the doc "I guess you pushed the wrong button" it took the better part of 15 minutes before the examination could continue.
While not a very pleasant experience, a necessary one that can sometimes be humorous.
