Metal repair

Postby Mag Man » Wed Dec 13, 2006 2:16 pm

I do not think this is off topic . But yesterday I was sitting here watching reruns of tool time and they had a show where they were asking what kind of epoxy to fix titanium, and hydrolic rams and such with. Where would one find different epoxies that work on different metals and are that strong?
Besides JB weld.

When I worked for Caterpillar we used a two part epoxy called "Devcon". It could be machined or drilled and tapped.
Don't remember who made it.
Best,
Mike

Devcon is the trade name of a series of polymer/epoxy products.
The most typical product used in theier line to my knowledge is
Devcon ST (stainless steel putty) but they offer other mixes as well
their products are intended for industrial usage and compared to products such as Jb weld they are very expensive, but they are by far superior to any over the counter procucts available
Devcon is available through various industrial suppliers
I know that Applied Industrial Technologies and some bearing distributors carry Devcon I'm not sure about Grainger
There is another product named PC 7 that comes relatively close to Devcon and I have seen it in various auto parts stores, some NAPA stores carry it some don't and give you a curious look when you ask
never made sense to me

McMaster-Carr carries Devcon as well as electrical conductive epoxies. I have used devcon a lot and it is better than anything else I've tried.
McMaster Carr has a website and you can order online.
