Wind Advisory on I-70

Whew doggie! What a drive today on I-70. If the steep grades weren't enough, the amber system was advertising high wind alerts. I didn't notice much until I topped the last ridge east-bound and had Denver in site. Then it hit. Gust in my estimation of around 70mph. The truckers gave up and just parked on the shoulder. Dust clouds and tumble weeds the size of cows! I made it to the 470 loop doing about 40mph and gradually got out of it. That pegged the fun meter! Hats-off to those that have to put up with that all the time.

Did you need help getting pried loose from the seat? 35 years ago I was working in a tv and appliance shop where we had a 65 Dodge 1/2 ton van. One day a wind gust caught it hard enough I went across the road to the oncomiing lane and up on 2 wheels. I was lucky the gust was coming through an opening between 2 ridges and I was back out of it so quick I could recover, but it scared the daylights out of me. sure was proud there wasn't any oncoming traffic.

It was a rental car. It still had bits of tumble weeds in the grill. The worker at the rental place laughed when I turned it in. He said he sees that a lot.

I know just a little of what you are talking about. I lived in Colorado
Springs for a while and have visited all over Colorado and Wy. Just
a few years back our daughter decided she had to live in Denver [Highland
Ranch Area] off the 470 loop. She went ahead in early October Mom and
Dad was to bring the furniture in late Oct. Well, that is when they had the
early blizard [worst in 50+ years] got stuck in Russell, Kansas and spent
two misserable days there and then had to fight all the traffic, snow, closed gas, snow, wind, snow, closed restaurants and other inconviences.
It sure was pretty in the rearview mirror.

I live north of Denver. The TV weatherman said Carter Lake (about 10 miles from us had 98 mile winds). We had a dead cottonwood tree blow over, and I'll have to wait for the snow to clear to see where I lost shingles from. Only good news is my shop heater got hooked up yesterday so I can work on the Cubs anytime I want now!
