Does anyone have any suggestions for blackening a large iron pot.I'm trying to blacken one using an outdoor butane burner.Seems to work ok,but some spots will burn before seasoning properly.Tried the oven, but too muck smoke in the house.

Build yourself a charcoal fire. You can control the heat easily by adding or removing coals. If you get really desperate you can use your oven in the kitchen and use a window fan to exhaust the fumes.
I have seasoned them with wood fires as well.

Joker,
I use Bigdog's method and it worked everytime for me. I noticed the dutch oven I bought at Harbor Freight took longer to season and I don't think cooked as well as my others. Didn't get it there did you? It now sits on the top of my wood stove. Use is it as a humidifier!
