Farmall Cub

My wife has been doing some spring cleaning. She ran across a rifle that I forgot that I had and was wondering if anyone has an idea of it's value. It is an old Springfield model 5, 22 caliber single shot, bolt action rifle. It was dad's old varmint rifle that we used to carry in the pick-up on the farm. No telling how old it is. Is it worth anything as a collector piece or is it just worth it's sentimental value to me?

Thanks Brent. I was just curious, I have no intention of selling it but I was wondering if it had any value as a collector piece. It's in what I would call a very used condition and of course needs a good cleaning. I'm not a gun enthusiast so I know nothing of it's value.

I am sure that you have some real good gunsmitties in your neck of the woods. We do, so you must.

Take it to a couple, get their opinion/appraisal of what this is worth. Then, add it what you feel it is worth to you if you HAD to replace it due to fire/theft or what have you.

Then have it insured as a rider on you homeowner policy for at least 50% more than what the number is you came up with. Over the years, I have helped family and friends appraise family heirlooms (antiquest and such), and even with my figures, sometimes I have been a little conservative.

I would ensure though that it is ensured specifically in a rider or a new policy if you must, but you should be able to do the rider thing.

While in town this afternoon i checked at the local sporting goods store, Model 5 Sprongfield is not shown in their books. I assume it mus either be worthless ro priceless, one or the other.

Put your glasses on Bigdog and read the model info again. I could not find that 22 in my friends gun book.

yeah, if it happens to be an M2 rather than a 5, it's a high dollar gun.
