My District Task force sent out 20 ambulances to Egg Harbor, New Jersey to assist with evacuation of hospitals and nursing Homes. I was not able to go this time I hope they took their rain coats.

Still waiting here in Western Ma., schools are pretty much closed Monday as are most state colleges and universitys. Looks like I will be riding this one out from home. If it ever starts that is.

Being a retired dairy farmer and a firefighter I learned to always be prepared. The garden is harvested and in the freezer along with home grown pork. The generator sets on standby surrounded by gasoline cans. I believe Im all set. But what I worry about is the number of roofs I have.
Being a firefighter Im told that utility workers will not be out repairing electric lines until after the storm is over. Said they won't work on lines in 50-60 mph wind and driving rain. If that's true, roads will be closed all over. I hope we don't have to rescue many people or have a fire if we can't get anywhere. It will be a slow deal with an ATV.

Update,, It wasn't as bad as expected, wind took off the tar paper froofing on a 10 by 20 leanto. Our power was off for 5 hrs. during the night. Fly Creek Valley got hit hard, many trees down with wires, power still out for them. We only got 12 tenths inch of rain. Guess it's over for us.

...a little breezy, some mist.
25 gallons of gas, generator runs, truck is full of gas, chainsaws are ready, porch furniture tied down, flag put away.
I don't need anymore wood but if an oak or two come down nearby I'll find a place to put the wood. We have 12 cords split & stacked plus another 6-8 cords that need splitting from the October 2011 snow storm.

Forecast for Monday afternoon and night is really starting to look nasty.

Having grown up in Florida (before the bottled water thing...1950's-60's), everytime a hurricane was headed our way, one of the first tasks we did was fill the bath tub with water just in case. Good luck to all of you up north from NC!

At this time , I am in Washington D.C working. It is raining steady, a few wind gusts at about 20-25 mph. Nothing serious.
No sideways rain yet. Yesterday I filled a zinc cattle tank half way full of water and will let the rain do the rest. Just in case.
Tied down all my lawn furniture to trees. Picked up all the loose stuff. Luckily I had my bad trees cut down this summer.
The cub is in the shed and will be dry until the sideways rain starts. (open front) I think we will be O.K. Just hope we don't get tornadoes .


Update 8:00 AM and all is well. Freezer is full of venison and other stuff, water supply is fine. Kids are not little now, so a couple of gallons of milk is all we need for a few days. Truck and Car gas full. two cans of gas on standby. Cell phones charged.
Can re charge from the car if needed.
See other post on telephones. Was raining hard in DC . Here in my part of Va. the rain is not as heavy. A crew of about 20 utility trucks passed me last night headed East toward DC on my way to work. They were not from around here. Glad to see they are pro-active. Those guys earn their money.

Update # 2 11:05 PM Wind has been blowing much harder, Rain not as steady, Tree limbs breaking off in the neighbors yard,
Power out across the street. Heard about 3 transformers blow in the neighborhood so far. Good luck and many prayers to all in the affected area.

Update #3 Tuesday Morning , all is ok here. Nothing new rain is very minimal. Cloudy and wet. Wind minimal.
Let you know more after I go around town.

At 0820 the wind is starting to really pick up here in southwestern Connecticut. Looks like the weather people are going to get this one right . Like everyone else here, we are as prepared as we can be, all vehicles full of fuel, food, and generator ready and waiting. Similar to last year I am sure a lot of trees will be down , and power will be out for days. I hope everyone stays safe, and we all get by this storm.

One of the most worrisome items for me if the power goes out is my sump pump and my freezers. Far too much value in there and would be painful to lose it. The freezers should stay cold for a few days without power. This is one of the reasons why we are installing a generator panel and a surge protector for the whole house. That project is about half done and it will be two weeks before my buddy gets back from his day job in Fort McMurray where he works two weeks and is home for two weeks.

Generator is ready though and at 5.5 kws continuous, there is more than enough to power my freezers and the pump. Lights etc., - well that is what the Lord gave us candles for

I hope y'all with freezers have a generator for backup.

Stay safe and dry. We are all essentially buttoned down here and will ride it out like we usually do. Gonna be an interesting nor'easter as that is what is forecasted for us - fed by Sandy and the cold air low coming down from the Arctic.

In Baltimore - At least 5 inches of rain thus far and Sandy is still hundreds of miles away. Steady rain with heavy squalls and wind gusting to about 40 mph; you get very wet very fast. The two deep sump pumps are discharging about every 15 minutes or so, the shallow sump is still dry. New back up batteries to power those pumps are fully charged, siphons are primed to take over to give the batteries a rest, generator is ready for action, 20+ gallons of gas between two tractors and several cans.

We were spared from Sandy's wrath in both Baltimore and Todd, just tired after a long 24 hours of waiting for calamity to implement Plan B or C or D. God was good to us, thanks for your prayers.
