I am thinking aobut buying a metal detector, not for treaure hunting, but for looking for lost parts in the grass, etc. of course, sometimes those can be treasure. Does anyone one have any suggestions as to what kind is available at a reasonable price, either new or used?

John, those big sweeper magnets are a lot of help when looking for lost parts.

john,

i use the heck out of the cheapest "find it all" detector i have ever seen. i can find that nut or bolt i just dropped in the grass. get the kind that you just turn on and turn up with the same knob until it just starts to buzz. when you pass it over a metal object it will sound off well enuff to get what my butter fingers dropped. the only draw back i know of is that it wont separate a bolt out of a bunch of horse shoes or bottle caps. it helps find your brass to reload if you get carried away with your machine gun, too.
