Farmall Cub

Sorry guys. I couldn't resist. I sold a tachometer off this tractor back in December and felt a little guilty about it. But, since I don't collect or restore tractors, I thought somebody else would appreciate the tach more than me.

I then used the cash to help pay for this 1953 IHC Garand that took me 5 months to restore. I just received the front sight today and that was the last piece. It is now a 100% IHC M1 Garand (to include the stock) with a near mint LMR barrel. So, it is also a nice shooter!

I knew from reading up on some of the IH stuff - I think it was in an issue of Red Power or something like that, that IH made rifles for the US Army. Never saw one though.

Great looking M1. You have a real nice place. Bits and pieces of it have shown up in pictures from time to time. Having been there to pick up the plow it brings bqack memories of you great place and the wonderful shop you havew. Bill

Nice looken garand.IHC made them korean war vintage.I have a Springfield 1mil range s/n made in May 43.Went deer hunting with it a couple of years back.I missed a 10 pointer one morning because I had the safety on.Why is it they are on the other side of the tree stand,had to take a left hand shot. The sound "click" of the safty coming off,was enough.... ...gone.... The four pointer later on with 220 grain bullet did the rubber leg jig.....after it jumped 10 feet..........Nice Big, nothing like M1 and cubs. Thanks for the kinds words. Yes, IHC made M1 Garands during the Korean War era. During WWII only Winchester and Springfield Armory made them. One other company, H&R made the rifles in the 50's. I hate to even say it, but of the 4 manufacturers of M1 Garands, the IHC rifles are generally considered to be the worst.

RedNed, that was rough luck with that deer. I was thinking about taking one of my Garands hunting next fall. I have a SA 2.6 million (Feb 1944) and a SA 3.3 million (Jan. 1945).

Mike, I bought the basic rifle from a guy in Washington. Besides the receiver, it had an IHC op rod, bolt, and the correct LMR barrel. Over the next 5 months I took my time looking for the correct IHC components that also matched the finish of the receiver. I had to replace the entire trigger group one part at a time. I found IHC rear and front sights. And I found a good deal on an IHC stock that had one small crack near the wrist. I repaired that and it looks great.
