Antique Cedar Shingle Machine Circa 1900 - Video

We went to the Gas-Up in Gallupville, NY for Father's Day. This was one of the coolest machines there. It was amazing the way it held the log and rotated the top and bottom to cut shingles of the same shape with each pass.

I have seen one that looked like this running at the Mason steam show. It is fun to watch.
There is also one with the blade running horizontally that I have seen but have never seen it running. I think some parts are missing. Vern

Really fascinating to watch that rig run. One place you do not want to loose your concentration.
If you are not part of the solution,
you are part of the problem!!!

Sure thing John - You'll notice he does not turn away or answer questions from the onlookers. OSHA would have a field day with this device now wouldn't they?
