Had to stop by the county assessor's office and correct an error in my property tax assessment list. Had previously tried to write in the correction on the property tax assessment list. Didn't work.
Listed was a WD45 Allis Chalmers. I explained that the tractor was a WD and not a WD45. And that I had two WD's. The kid penciled the corrections on the list. Then told me that if they couldn't find the tractor on the internet, they used one they thought was close.

I bet they do the same next year. They messed up mine for 14 years straight.

Re: Kid Behind The Counter.
If next years personal property tax assessment sheet still shows the Allis WD45 and not the two Allis WD's, the county assessor and I are going to have a talk with me standing on his desk. That will make 3 or 4 years in a row the assessment sheet is wrong.
The issue is not the small pocket change in tax. The issue is the fine for not properly listing the equipment. In this case the fine can be more than the value of one Allis WD tractor.
I only brought this issue up because of a recent post where the store didn't understand or have knowledge about the part(s) requested.
I have had issues with the only auto parts store in town open on Sunday. Manned only by 18 and 19 year old tech school students. Apparently nobody owns or operates tractors 2 1/2 times the age of the of employee behind the counter. Or better yet there is no such make or model of tractor. Heck, my two pickup trucks are older than the Sunday employees.
I needed pull out sticky fly strips. I asked the store employee where the strips were located. Was told that there were only in comic strips.
I really like dealing with the old person behind the counter.

Maybe telling them you sold the WD45, then, going back next week, and adding the WD, would work. I'm assuming the other WD, is listed, correctly.

Re: Kid Behind The Counter.
I would write a letter to the assessment office outlining your issue and attempts to correct it.
Send it certified.
File the receipt and a copy of the letter in case you need proof in the future.
Then forget about it.

Re: Kid Behind The Counter.
The process to change tractors, vehicles, implements, etc., is quite simple, line out the WD45 on the front of the assessment sheet, then add the 2 each WDs on the back. Been there done that.ScottyD'sdad wrote:Maybe telling them you sold the WD45, then, going back next week, and adding the WD, would work. I'm assuming the other WD, is listed, correctly. Ed
None of the WD's are listed on the assessment sheet.

Then, I'd try Winfield Dave's suggestion. Stupid is the hardest disease to treat!
