Surgery momemts away

Postby John(videodoc) » Mon Dec 12, 2005 8:21 am

Well, i have to take the wife in this morning for double knee surgery.

As i have mentioned in chat room, thats why i had to sell one of my cubs, due to her being off work for 4-6 weeks, and trying to be the "responsible adult". and not having to touch savings to offset the loss of income. (not quite enough sick/vacation time saved, transferred hospitials, year ago)

Anyway, send up some prayers(for me i'm thinking 8) ), as she is quitting smoking at the same time, and she woke up this morning in baaaaaad  mood already, can't wait for em to get some drugs in her system.

My step mother has come out to do the household stuff for me, thank god. She gets to stay a couple of weeks. then im on vacation for a week. Hopefully the wife will be up and around by then. I hate doing laundry as much as i hate sanding drywall.!

John, you and your wife have our prayers. One word of warnign tough, if your wife is having knee replacemtns, that takes quite a while to recover from. Tou (or MIL) will be emptying potty chair for a while due to difficulty of getting from bed to bathroom in middle of night. Alos clear out any throw rugs, tripping or slipping hazards, etc.
If you are not part of the solution,
you are part of the problem!!!

John - our thoughts and prayers are with your family. I hope the recovery from the knee surgery takes her mind off her quitting smoking. It would be a good time for you to quit too in support of her decision. :)

Tom, my mom had both of her knees replaced six years ago when she was 80. She is getting around great. Even takes care of a beautiful small flower garden and grows tomatoes every summer. These new surgerys are amazing.

The PT afterwards will be a little tough, but needs to be followed.

Good luck we are thinking about her too :)

Well the wife made it home last night. sore but okay. No corrections were made, as no tears were noted. Only thing noted was minimal cartialage remaining (cushions), bone pushing through what little was remaining, and advanced arthritis for her age (41). But being a nurse, thats probably expected. Doc said they'll discuss other treatment options, at follow up appt in two weeks.?

John:

Glad that your better half made it through the arthroscopy nicely. Been there in 87 and 88. Glad that they did not have to remove the miniscii either and that there are other treatment options.

The arthritis will be difficult to deal with though... but it is not insurmountable. Patience and Physio is a good combination and will produce resolts for the long term.

As for the smoking.. I hope you both can quit... I said I couldn't for 40 years, and then quit cold turkey on the 27th ot Nov last year. Still crave em at times.. like about 20 minutes ago... but.. that goes away so much as well.

Best thing you can do is join her in her quest for better health.. you will both be better for it..

Stiff upper lip.. as always prayers are with you all..
