I have a brother, sister and several nieces and nephews, in the central Florida area. Hoping for the best for them and everyone else. We watched a lot of the coverage, yesterday, wow, that was a bad one!

Thanks Don! We are sitting here watching it approach. Currently steady rain and wind, with gusts to 40mph. By early afternoon we should have torrential rain for a short while, but wind gusts higher than 60 mph. Hoping the trees hold so we don't lose power! We've been through stronger storms, Florida took a lot of the fight out of this one. Those folks will definitely have it worse than us for quite some time.

If Dusty Burton is reading, I was wondering what damages his winter home sustained in Fort Myers?

I have a friend who has a winter home at Fort Myers Beach. I’m going to wait a day or two, then contact him. Right now, they are still here in Ohio. The hurricane hit that area dead center.

A lot of that area is just gone. We dodged the bullet (this time) here in North FL. As bad as this storm was in S. FL., it would have been MUCH worse up here.

It's been cranking out some fierce wind here in Chapel Hill, NC, for a few hours now. I've had one medium-sized branch fall on a smaller tree and break it, and tons of debris scattered, but (hopefully!) nothing bigger so far. Sirens are blaring in the distance, and I know some streets in town are blocked with trees down.

I have a few large hickory trees in back along a 15'x50' deck, and it has been a constant bombardment on my roof and the deck of the golf ball sized nuts!!

The northeast is getting this later on. Hope everyone in Ian's path stays safe!

Well, Ian has left us without power and the landscape is covered with debris, but otherwise, we came through OK!

My sister brought me a hot cup of coffee, since she has a generator. It's so nice having sisters that all get along!!

I hope our Northern neighbors are dating well! Later today, I'll head out to the farm to see what, if any, damage it has incurred. I know the power there is out, also.

I just pulled my 103 year old father out of Punta Gorda and it was a nightmare down there. No power, water, services, gas.....We are safely moved in to a hotel in Brooksville north of Tampa.
