Bill,

I am so terribly sorry for you and your family.

That is always such a hollow and empty sounding thing to say, though, at times like this. How well I know.

We all dangle in life, like a feedbag on a piece of twine. Time is every bit our enemy, just as it is that piece of twine. For each of us, there will come a day when our piece of twine will break.

But, for those who have fallen, their suffering in this life is over, and there are none among us who do not suffer greatly in one way or another in this life.

And so we trust, whatever our beliefs, that for those of us who led good lives, and had good hearts, that the next life will be better.

I know that I do.

May peaceful, loving, happy memories of your mother fill your heart with joy for the rest of your days, my friend.
