Prayer request for family friend

Postby Corky's Cub » Fri Feb 27, 2009 7:32 pm

Good evening folks,

This morning we learned that our son's best friend from high school, who lived with his single mother in our home for his last year in high school, was killed early today in a head-on collision. Naturally, our son is very sad and so are we. But I'm asking that you pray for his mother, who raised him alone. James was his mother's knight in shining armor, and we know she is devastated.

To demonstrate how genuine and good-hearted this young man was, I'll share a story from our daughter's wedding. Even in her late 30's, James' mother was quite pretty, and served as a bridesmaid in the ceremony. After the rehearsal dinner the evening before the wedding, one of the groomsmen got drunk, and made a rude pass at James' mother. Well, even though the groomsman was 7 or 8 years older and much bigger and stronger, young James stepped in front of his mom and knocked the pig flat on his back with one well-placed punch.

The next morning, the pig showed up at my front door, asking my permission to still be in my daughter's wedding. I admonished him to honor my daughter by acting correctly, and decided he could still stand behind the groom. In my mind, standing in front of the crowd with the big black eye given to him by James would serve as punishment for him, and an extra tribute to the courage and honor exhibited by this young man.

James Earl Lumpkin, Jr., rest in peace + You are loved and will be missed.

Much to the surprise of my dear, dear wife!

Charles,
Our Prayers are on the way.

I bought an old tractor all dusty and worn,
knew nothing about her just the year she was born
I washed her and greased her and painted her red
Now she lives happily right here in my shed.

Thanks guys. We got back last night. What a wonderful ceremony for a great young man who didn't have a mean bone in his body. We lost count of all the young folks who considered "Jamie" their best friend...and that's quite a tribute when so many hold you in such high regard.

What struck me most positively, was how his mother and father, who've been divorced for years, immediately set all that history aside and brought their separate families together to remember their son.

This young man will be missed by all who were fortunate enough to know him during his 23 years, but he will rest easy in God's hands. And a legion of family and friends are secure in the knowledge that Jamie's beliefs, positive outlook on life, and genuine good nature, now place him in good stead with the Lord.

We should all be so fortunate......
