Good for you. I was a reject in the late 60s, but you and all the rest of the people who have served our county and protected us have my deepest respect and thanks for what you have done.

Congratulations. A hitch in the Marine Corp. is certainly something to be proud of. Thanks for serving your country. :D :D

February, 1968, was my "fun times", with the Marines. I was a hospital corpsman, serving with 3rd Battalion, !st Marine Rgt, during the 1968 TET offensive. (Viet Nam, to you young whippersnappers). Ed

It's hard to believe that Ed and I get along so well. After all how many sailors do you know that hang out with marines. All you marines have my utmost respect. Semper Fi.

My 2 tours in Nam as a SeaBee was spent mostly working with marines. The Fleet Marine Corp combat insignia I have on my VietNam service medal is the most respected memento I own. Had and have the utmost respect for them. Retired from the fleet Navy and still feel the Marine Corps is the only branch of the military thats still 100% military. Can honestly say that Stone Bay in Camp Lejune was not one of my best memories. :{_}: :{_}: Grump

Michael:

When one enters Military Service it seems to be one of those watershed moments in life that remain imprinted in your memory and can be recalled with almost perfect clarity at any time later... like getting married, birth of your children etc.

I remember the day I signed on the dotted line, the day I set off for Basic, and Graduation Day and each seminal point thereafter in my service life. I too spent my military time in the Navy, and I had the pleasure of working with US Navy spooks, a couple US Army spooks, and the ocassional time spent with US Marines (usually as security forces) on reciprocal service with the Canadian Forces. Every one of them, have always represented their service and the country admirably and were greatly respected.

Even though I am Navy, I am proud that my son-in-law to be served with the US Marines and as he has said, once a Marine, always a Marine.

If you were in San Diego I would have been on the other side of the fence a year later. I remember seeing the Marines running laps and thinking I was glad the Navy didn't see the value of strenuous activity back then, and that I was on the considerably easier side of the fence. I hold the Marines in high regard, they are who you send when you want it done.

Happy anniversary Michael!

DD it was 9 years ago in April when I pulled out of New River Air Station, Camp LeJeune. I too was the same as ScottyD's dad. A corpsmen, spent all my time with the Marines. I was more a Marine then Sailor, and that would never change. I couldn't take going to shore duty in some hospital so it was time to go. I could not wait for the day to come that I could drive away. Then about 15 minutes from base. I realized it was one the sadest day of my life. I had left my family, family members changed monthly, but we were all still a family. I have seen some on TV(marine 1 - Major Quigly - was a Lt when I met him first) Some in Iraq and Afgan. I miss it still today.

and don't forget the sand fleas and misquitos need to eat too.
