20 years ago today i had my last half can of beer. I was only 22 at the time and had already started the process of visiting the county jail and going in front of the commander on a regular basis. I was destined to be like Otis on the Andy Griffin show. If it wasn't for a certain commander who gave me a chance, and numerous people over the years, i wouldnt be here today clean and sober. I am an active member of a twevle step group and attend regularly. I know there are many members among this fellowship as well. There was a period of time when i stop all meeting attendance, it was a low point in my recovery, but that is when i was very active with this forumn, and this forumn carried me for the 1.5 yrs i didnt attend any meetings. Thank you.
One of my first sponsors told me to grad ahold of your a$$ with both hands because you are in for one heck of a ride, and it has been one heck of a ride. Military, to civilian life. Military to Hospital to prison to community based mental health employment. Single to married with three kids, and then five kids. As many as 5 dogs and 2 cats at once. Bought the century old family farm in iowa, lost the family farm. Bought a video store chain, lost a video store chain. Built a new house. Joined a tractor club. Turned the life of my son over to the care of god and physcians treating him, when he couldnt breathe on his own and flown by helicopter to a childrens hospital, loss of my father, loss of two sponsors, graduated from college four times, carry two national certifications for addictions therapy, nominated for a presidential letter of recognition (Bush Sr.), numerous medals, loss of pets of 10, 15 yrs. Restored three tractors. Phewww
I wonder what is in store for the next 20 yrs. You have been a help to me in some way, thank you
