Where's Nik?

Postby Don McCombs » Thu Aug 20, 2009 7:37 pm

Several of us on the board have been wondering about Nik Roble (kinelbor) and how he's getting along in his new career. I emailed him last night and got the following response...
Hey, havent been on the forum for a long time, feel kinda bad. I have moved to Virginia and am working for Taylor and Boody Organbuilders. So far so good, but I really miss Maine. I had to park my Cub in the shed and say goodbye when I moved. I wanted to attend the Cubtug since I live so much closer to everything now but it didnt pan out. I guess really not much else going on for me now, just gettin up and going to work, I need some kind of project haha.
Nik

I'm sure that Nik won't mind me posting this for all to see. If he does, I'm in big trouble.

I am still alive and well. I check he forum every once in a while but not as much as I should. I am still always panning around looking for Cubs, especially now that I have new ground to cover. I did find one that a guy had parked at his yard sale. It wasn't for sale but still had a nice chat about Cubs in general.

Nik,

I went to the Taylor and Boody web site and got to see pics of you hard at work. You're looking good.

Yup thats me making a Forest Flute 2' stop. We loaded Opus 13 today on the truck back to Iowa. It was damaged in the flooding last summer and is now all back together and repaired. The website is undergoing an overhaul right now and will soon be updated.

Nik:

Glad to see you posting again, and glad to know that you decided to go to Taylor and Boody, great profession that can use a talented craftsman. Good for you. :applause: Keep us posted, and hope you find a Cub or something to play with whilst you are in Va. :D Oh yea, I enjoyed the Opus 13 pics when they were there.

Hey Nik, that place does some very beautiful work! It sure is nice to see such fine craftsmanship is appreciated. Isn't Yamaha a competitor?? (I know it's snowmobiles, but I still had to make the joke.) That company looks to be the perfect place to learn a whole lot of useful and varied skills. You should appreciate that very, very few places would give you the exposure to so many things and so many skilled people. You are very lucky, even though you are far from home.

A friend has a very old house nearby that has a built in pipe organ.... that thing has some serious 'plumbing'. If you ever run into someone looking to restore an old one, let me know. It would take a few days (weeks?) to disassemble it, but it needs a loving home.

Best of luck on the adventure! Possibly I will see you at the Va Cubfest next year??
