I have their 20 ton press and like it.
There are two ways to get enough Cubs. One is to continue to accumulate more and more. The other is to desire less.

Some of the 1 star reviews are saying they are flimsy and the jacks leak, yada, yada. I chalk that up to user error. Thanks, Bill.

This very topic is being discussed on another forum I frequent.

The major complaints of them are along the lines of 12 ton is not enough and the press is too short to use on the floor and too tall to use on a bench.

Consensus seems to be that the 20 ton is the way to go.

That matches my experience. I bought a used one at an auction from a shop that was shutting down. Turned out the jack already leaked down. (Push it one stroke, the springs pull it back up a half stroke while you lift the handle for a second stroke.) I bought another 12-ton jack to replace it. When you are pressing something odd shaped, the frame distorts so it is rocking on 2 corners while you try to do the pressing. The other day I had something that required a hard push (only using a 12-ton jack) and the upper bar bent enough that the springs could no longer pull the jack back up (guide rods started to drag).

It is junk.

I bought a 12 ton press about 5 years ago from Craigslist, I think I paid $40, so figured it was worth a try. I have used it fairly frequently with no issues. I was pressing something once that wouldn't budge, was afraid to keep going so I left it under pressure overnight. Next day one partial pump and it came free - POP  it didn't leak down, and hasn't ever. I think it is the HF "luck of the draw", inconsistent quality, so far I have lucked out (probably jinxed now) :D . But I have got my money's worth. I would probably go with the 20 ton if I was buying new.

Good luck,
David

I have a 12 ton at home I bought at auction that I did a lot of beefing up on and also made a stand to get it up off the floor to work height. It’s okay but can easily be over worked. I’ve done quit a bit of work on our 20 ton here at work as well. Had to weld a new plate on top where the jack pushes and beef it up. A couple of the 1” holes are stretched as well.

:Dito: Also, with the 20 ton, a 20 ton air/hydraulic jack will slip in there. That's nice if you do a lot of bending.
I'd definitely go with the 20 and not the 12.

OK, I found a 25% coupon online good 3/31 - 4/1. That puts the 20 ton at $151.05 out the door. Happy birthday to me, happy birthday to me...oops sorry.

I will give a review when after I get it.

Here’s the beef up on the 12 ton press. Put a plate on both sides to tighten it up and prevent the bend like Jim was talking about. The 12 ton is what it is.

Mine differs a lot from the one in Shane's pictures. Looking at the current Harbor Freight web page, mine bears a stronger family relationship to their "A" frame 12-ton press than their "H" frame 12-ton press, even though mine is an "H" frame style. My experience with the bent upper bar may not be applicable to the current products, the distorting frame likely does.
