00 grease

Postby John *.?-!.* cub owner » Fri Apr 25, 2014 9:20 am

00 grease is used in some lawn mower and chain drive tillers, and for the last couple years I have used it in the chain case of my Howard Rotavator. My problem is finding it in my area. One of it's uses is cotton picker spindles, so it may be more common in the south, but around here pretty rare. While doing some searching I found it for $5 per quart at tractor supply, but have to order it on line in this area. Even with shipping, it is still a bargain at that price.

I've never used it. The only time I ever heard of it was looking through a snapper mower manual and they called for it in the transmission. I actually thought it was a misprint.   Grump

Messy stuff, but a Snapper gotta have it. Really fun to have to go back into gear reduction box after having filled it. Don't ask.

Use 00 grease when rebuilding mower spindles that do not have grease fittings. Works great !

Yeah, be sure to have several disposable gloves on hand. Great lubricant for some things though.
