camphor stopping tool rust?

Postby John *.?-!.* cub owner » Mon Jan 08, 2018 10:29 pm

Saw this on the Red Power site. don't know if it is effective or not.
http://www.rockler.com/how-to/camphor-b ... on-device/

I wonder about it for stored rifles but would worry about it forming a film on scopes lenses, even with covers on.

I've never heard of this, but do love the rockler toy store. (have one near work)
The guys in there usually know a whole lot about woodworking and tools. Never heard of camphor as a rust inhibitor before.

My fuel tank neck reformer from "Earl" was shipped with camphor. I have stored it in a closed container with same and after several years--no rust.

Many machinists where I have worked have used this stuff. I never liked the smell. Oiled my measuring tools with Starrett instrument oil.

I'm not sure Earl is making them any more. I'd suggest sending him a PM and see if he has any left from before. There may be someone close to you that could lend you one too.

For hand tools to prevent rust years ago there was a clear coat we applied to tools. I think craftsman sold it.
I'm technically misunderstood at times i guess its been this way my whole life so why should it change now.
