Another member of our local tractor club emails me the monthly newsletter, and I then add the club return address, plus sometimes include additional notes. Sine my version of MS Office is pretty old I have been experimenting with Open Office 4.0.1, and like it but I have a problem. The newsletter comes to me in .doc format, which I can read, but cannot edit. the only way I can edit it is to copy and paste into Open Office. Does anyone have a solution?
Thanks

John, I am not familiar with Open Office but does it have import availability? You may be able to bring the doc file in that way.
There are two ways to get enough Cubs. One is to continue to accumulate more and more. The other is to desire less.

Re: Open Office question.
I didn't try to "save" but using OpenOffice 4.0.1 I can open and edit a doc file. Maybe you are running into one of the newer MS formats like docx or docm. Maybe this page will fix you up:

Don't blame me if it destroys your computer.

Re: Open Office question.
I posted on the Apache (Open Office forum, and they had a fix. Thunderbird protects documents that are read only when you open them, but The tool bar for Open Office Text has an Edit File button that takes care of the problem.

Re: Open Office question.
Late to the party, but I will toss my two cents worth on this. I love Open Office! It can do mostly everything that Word does and you are not beholding to the behemoth, MS!!! Takes a little getting used to the button configuration differences between Word and OpenOffice, but once you know that part, POOF... works great!

Re: Open Office question.
I have been a huge fan for many many years of Word Perfect and I have always thought that MS Word was nothing but a stripped down version of Word Perfect and one that I thoroughly dislike MS Office. My Pastor turned me on to Open Office a number of years ago and that is now my go to word processor. Still haven't figured it all out .. it is a very complex suite .. but I like it.
I have yet to have any difficulty opening any version of a doc/docx file .. but I is still learning to use it.
