What is with the spam?

Postby allenlook » Fri Mar 31, 2006 7:25 pm

I've noticed a few spam messages hitting the board lately, although I think they disappear pretty quickly.

Is that something the admins have to put up with and stay on top of all the time?

I have deleted/dumped 3 porn-spams in the last 2 days.

Allen:

Suffice to say, if locked then no guest postings and no way for them to query....

Also, allowing it to be un-locked hopefully will keep questions out of the quest book as they seldom get answered, unless I do it manually....

And yup, Team Cub is on the prowl... grrrrrr :!:  8)

The spicey stuff seems to be caused by bot activity......

We're deleting them as soon as we are aware of them. Unfortunately, doing so doesn't cause the spammers enough pain. :(

I just dumped one about a half hour ago. I dont know if it was porn but it had a link titled the best CARTOONs Page. I didn`t even bother to check the page out to see what it contained.

I often catch them in the early morning and notify one of the Admins.

I think someone's found a new hack for the PhPBB forum software. I've been plagued with the same spam on my board, too. Guess we'll have to put up with it until the folks at PhPBB come up with a patch.
