Moderators, could we use a little more restraint??

Postby Super A » Sat Aug 19, 2006 8:33 am

Guys, I'm not trying to stir up trouble but two threads I started have been moved to other forums and I spent 20 minutes trying to find them to see if there were any new posts before I finally figured out where they were!!

One, about covers4tractors.com, the other about Brooks McCormick passing away.

Both of them have to do with Cub's at least indirectly. Brooks was the head/ceo of International Harvester. I figured members of teh Cub community would be interested. Covers4tractors makes a product for the Cub, which is why I asked here to see if anyone had any experience with it.

Both are now buried over on other forums that don't get near the traffic the main ones do.

Was I really taking up that much bandwidth?? :?

I appreciate this forum and try best as I can to play by the rules as I consider myself a guest, but I really don't see why these topics were moved. Maybe I just woke up on the wrong side of the bed this morning!

I know how you feel!!! I have also lost quite a few posts so I have almost quit with new subjects. At one time it seemed if I posted anykind of comment it was either stricken or moved. Now I wouldn't consider looking for them at all that would not enter the picture for me. So Mostly read and search old topics if I have a question. It's best to leave sleeping dogs alone. I know this one will get the boot!!!!!!!!!!! I guess it's off subject of cubs. Sorry

You know, I haven't started any new topics lately. I get the feeling that if you "march to the beat of a different drummer" around here you might get virtually slapped. I don't know what's happened here lately. Although he hadn't been on the forum very long, the ol' 400 lb'er always started things going with controversial remarks. I kind of liked the way he got things going. He hasn't posted since 7-10.

I guess that I'm saying is that I'm getting to the age that I don't want to be chastised or censored for my utterances that are not profane, mean-spirited, or condescending. This is a great forum with many members, and with very diverse backgrounds. The common link being mostly Cubs.

I realize that I'm just a guest here. But if you think about it, we're all guests in this world. Just passing through and trying to be a better person and to right wrongs whenever possible. I haven't any more battles to fight but I enjoy a few skirmishes every now and then.

Just my two cents. Larry

Hey come on guys, let's not be so quick to judge our moderators here. They have been doing an EXCELLENT job, each and everyone one of them. You know what happens to a good forum, when there is no such action taken? They become stale and full of porn crap. Please don't take offense becasue your topic being moved to another fourm, the moderator is just tying to place it where it WILL get the most views. Dennis has this Farmall Cub site and it fourms setup very nicely and he has a good description for each forum of what it is intended for.

As with anything we (at least I do) need some sort of organization or things would become very hectic in a hurry. Just think what would happen on our computers if you didn't have sub-directories for files, that's basically what the other forums here are.......sub-directoires.

I have had a couple topics moved in the past to the correct forum. I was very happy that one of the moderators took the time by moving it to the appropriate forum. Just because this is the "main one", doesn't mean it gets anymore or less views than the others. If everything was all lumped into one, I would miss a LOT of things. I check the For sale/wanted, Way way way way off topic and announcements every day.

Larry, I too have noticed that Tom (400 lbs) has not posted in some time and I have inquired to his were abouts both on chat and sent him an email. I really enjoy Tom as a person and a fellow cub owner and member here. He has a vast amount of knowledge and I think he enjoys a good controversial topic every now and then anyhow. It was suggested to me that Tom is probably doing a lot of traveling for his vending at Fair events and hasn't had the time to get back here on the forum. I am sure he will be back on once things come to an end.

Also, please Note I am NOT a moderator. I have noticed there have been very few topics that have been completley deleted or locked AND if they were deleted, it was for the fear of really stepping on someone's feelings. Something that I am sure that Dennis or anyone else would want to occur. After all we are much much better than those "other" fourms we all know and hate because of the bashing and finger pointing.

So with that being said I am 100 pecent certain there was nothing against you or your topic(s) that you posted.

John, my thing, other than wasting 20 minutes this morning not being able to find my threads, is that I don't think whoever moved them even bothered to read them. Heck, the covers4tractors thread had been replied to before it was moved, BY ONE OF THE OTHER MODERATORS!! Both threads had Cub content and weren't hurting a thing on the main board which is where most people go. If I was being profane or posting something just completely off the wall, then it would have been different. But in my opinion both threads were relevant to the main discussion, which is why I put them there.

Again I am not trying to start a ruckus and unless someone asks me a question directly on this thread, I will shut up! (...and a sigh of relief was heard from the crowd........) As I said, I was in a hurry, wanted to make a quick check of the board, and got frustrated 'cause I couldn't find what I was looking for. My opinion remains that the two threads could have been handled differently. But, you know what they say about opinions!

And, I agree, this is a first-class board with a first class group of people and I enjoy it emensely. Soapbox mode off....

Al,

I can understand your frustration I have been there before and my topic WASN'T move. Brain freeze or just plain stupid on my part, I really don't know :D

I have found that sometimes the easierst way to find your own topics and the ones you have replied to is to go to your profile and click on "Find all posts by (your user ID)" Well it's the easiest way I have found that works for me.

Just don't let this little event stop you from posting, as I said before I am sure the moderator had his own reasons and didn't do it to upset you or make you feel that the tractor site or Mr. McCormick wasn't important, because they were. I even went to the site you directed us to on Brooks McCormick and read the article. I guess I didn't know there was there was any McCormicks still in the company, I guess grandpa was right all along, "You can learn something new everyday".

When you first get to the forum there is a botton at the top right that says "View Posts Since Last Visit" That lets you see the all the new posts you havent seen in ALL the forums, lumped together in one list.

Not trying to stir the pot either but I agree. I have asked questions and the posts disapeared. One was half OT and half cub question. Was a little Mad at first then found the posts on Of topic. I was not sure who did it but I think even some OT topics should be here or say topic OT Bird juice was moved to way off topic board. But I am on enough anti depressants at this point it slid off my back quicker than um um well you know. LOL
JON
PS I am sorry but I my self thought the tractor cover post belonged on the Classifieds. If things like that dont get moved then the board for tractor or cub disscussion would turn into a classified. You have to watch the way you word it like. Has any one ever seen a bla bla tractor cover?
Also If you look into the off topic board I think you will see what happpened to the 400#seat spring poster. I dont know the spesifics but he ofened tom at TM I guess and was a little sorry and I think thats why he has not been around.

If I am not mistaken, when posts are moved, a link is left in the oringial forum that says "Moved: Title of thread" that points to the new location.

Ihave been an almost daily reader on this site for several years now. I appreciate the information that is available on this board. I also enjoy the occasional good-natured humor. [see "Country"]. Ialso deeply appreciate those who devote their time to make this site the best . Now concerning the moving of posts, is that not a judgment call? And their judgment as to the placement of any of my posts is fine with me. In fact, I would consider it as doing me a favor if mine were moved.

When a thread is moved, the moderator has the option of leaving a pointer in the old thread. It is up to the individual monitor as to whether he does so or not. He may consider whether there have been replies, what the number of views is or any other factor he wants to apply.

This thread really belongs in the "Message Board Questions" but I am afraid to move it. Evidently the other moderators are as well.

Al:

I moved the post about Brooks McCormick. Why? Because it really has little to do with Cubs... and the Cub Forum is for stuff on and affecting Cubs directly.

Maybe it should have been moved to the Farmall/IH/Case Forum - granted.. but is should have been posted in the Farmall/IH/Case Forum originally. That is where it belongs. That is where Brooks probably made the most impact. And YES, I did read it.. btw... but it did not change my opinion and it was a judgement call.

Far too many Off Topic Threads are posted in the Cub Forum. Why? I am not sure.. and I hesitate to make a guess or an ASSUMPTION.. but, it occurs and part of the Moderators job is to put stuff where it belongs.

As for:
I spent 20 minutes trying to find them to see if there were any new posts before I finally figured out where they were!!

Al, if you can't find something that is what the Search feature is for -- and you would in this case Search for ALL POSTS BY SuperA.. :?: :?:

People.. there are reasons why we post threads such as New Members and Visitors, Please READ Prior to Posting, or have different Forums for different things. But if people don't read them, or don't pay attention.. how are the Moderators supposed to help people out with problems posting pics or links, answering questions on what ever difficulties they are having with their Cubs, keep the forums tidy and actually read threads for enjoyment as well.

I will now address this with myself removed from Team Cub for a second please if I may. The moderators on this site do an amazing job. I have been a mod and still am on a few other sites.. and I can speak from experience. This is the very best site on the internet for tractor fanatics or anyone for that matter and it is entirely due to a couple of reasons.

1. The Moderators are awesome.. they work hard at keeping the forums a happy and jovial place, but also one where people can express their opinions on almost any topic they wish.. provided that they DO NOT HURT PEOPLE... PERIOD :!:
2. The Members are also awesome.. they also work hard at keeping the forums a happy and jovial place.

There is zero tolerance for flames or disrespect.. there is no prejudice or hatred or ignorance allowed. People are expected to treat each other with respect and with honour.

But this goes both ways.... Moderators must make judgement calls and sometimes.. it is difficult. It is incumbent upon the membership to do what they can to ensure that threads are posted in the proper forums.

How many times have you seen a Topic Moved.. usually to the For Sale/Wanted Forum or the the Message Board Forum. This is usually because that is Where the Topic belongs :!:

Al, if it offended you that much.. please accept my apology..

However, I truly do not see the rational... for the hulabaloo... I truly don't. If it was the passing of Queen Elizabeth or the Prime Minister of Canada or even the passing of a former POTUS .. I would still move it to the proper forum... because that is Where the Topic belongs :!:

As for the comment about
Both are now buried over on other forums that don't get near the traffic the main ones do.

There is nothing I can do about what people read or what people don't read.... that is entirely up to them individually. Being Buried, well that is just plain silly... nobody is burying anything...

Now I am going to make one comment.. to kind of put this into perspective.. I am a member of this forum for the same reasons as you. I enjoy my Cubs, I enjoy the friendships I have made and I enjoy helping as much as I can... but I also am a member so I can get some enjoyment from reading about other people's experiences with their Cubs etc....

I got home this evening about 2 hours ago... and I have spent almost 1-1/2 hours trying to respond to this thread and the ensuing hulabaloo.... which has erupted... :? :?

Again, if I offended you.. I truly am sorry... but, I am just trying to do what is asked of the Mods to the best of my ability...
