Avatars for DummiesHow do you take a regular sized picture, say a 640x480, and get it to where you can use it as an avitar?? I have tried re-sizing and it still won't go. What I need is a step-by-step for "dummies!"

Re: Avatars for DummiesI think the maximum size is 120 x 120 and file size: 2.00 Kb or less

Re: Avatars for DummiesThe first step is to resize the pic. If the filesize Is over 2 kb you'll have to reduce the quality too. I'm at work and not near a computer so I can't give you better instructions than that. When I get home I'll be more helpful!

Re: Avatars for Dummies
You have to open the photo in some type of software that will allow you to resize it. If you open the photo in Windows Photo Viewer, it does not allow you to resize it directly. However, it gives you the option to "OPEN WITH" other software that is available on your machine. As a minimum I would think you probably have Windows Paint, which allows you to resize the photo, and then save it. If you have Microsoft Office on your computer, you can open with Microsoft Office Picture Manager, which is pretty good and a little more user friendly. Good Luck. Bill VanHooser

Re: Avatars for Dummies
I have tried Office Picture Manager, but it won't "compress" when I tell it to. Just sits there. A; "12 volt conversions are for quitters"

Re: Avatars for DummiesHave you tried to resize (instead of compress) the photo in Office Picture Manager? This allows you to select the exact size in pixels that you desire. After resizing, check the file size in bytes, also. If the photo is less than 2 kb, you should be good to go with your new Avatar.

Re: Avatars for DummiesYEs, I tried that. File is still way too big.
Don, I have Windows 7 and it says the PowerToys resizer isn't compatible. Al "12 volt conversions are for quitters"

Re: Avatars for Dummies
What size did you reduce it to? Sometimes, you have to make it smaller than 120 x 120 pixels, because it is too big in kilobytes. It probably depends on the resolution that your camera used to take the photo. Maybe try 60 x 60 pixels. Something's gotta work. Bill VanHooser

Re: Avatars for Dummies60x86 pixels is still almost 21 K.
I can't understand why Picture Manager won't compress it. Al "12 volt conversions are for quitters"

Re: Avatars for DummiesThere is an image resizer clone for Windows 7:

Re: Avatars for DummiesIt is really easy to resize using the version of Paint that comes with Windows 7. Be sure to save as a jpeg.
