A Solution for iPad or iPhone Photos

Postby PVF1799 » Sat Jun 06, 2015 9:48 pm

I take nearly all my photos on my iPhone. Because I use Photo Stream they automatically sync to my iPad. That's awesome except on the iPhone/iPad photos are too large to post to the forum. I've always had to go sync my phone to the PC - resize the photos using Microsoft Photo Gallery (free). The other alternative would be email it to myself - then you get the option to resize. This is NOT very practical.

Today - I have found the cure. I downloaded a free App for my iPad called SimpleResize. I simply select the photos from within the app, select the new size and the new image (not over saved)is created. Using this tool, I can now sit in the Lazy-Boy, iPad in lap and uploaded photos to the forum.

Totally awesome app - SimpleResize (one word). Check-it out.

I usually email the picture to myself and use the resize option there. Then I use the smaller pic from the email. That makes it a good bit smaller than it has to be so it's pretty low resolution. I'll check out the app you suggested. Thanks.

Have never used an I-Phone and probably never will get one. Just not needed for my purposes, as far as I know. The info I saw online may be wrong but some posts suggest that some apps run continuously in the background and consume significant power from the battery. Could be an important consideration.

Since IOS 6.XX - (Current version is IOS 8.0) for iPad and iPhone - you can visualize what apps are consuming what % of your battery. You can control how each app interacts by enabling or disabling push, pull or fetch settings. SimpleResize, like most apps will run in the background unless you set it accordingly to your preferences.

Since I installed SimpleResize - I've used it four times in the last 24 hours - so far it's consumed less than 4%. By comparison Google Chrome has used 48% - because i leave it open and the pages refreshes are pinging the inet routinely.

It's my understanding that later versions of the iphone, it's just simply a matter of uploading attachment directly from iphoto. I still have iphone 4, so I'll be checking out your solution. Thanks

I didn't know what the ios8 photo version was called. I think it's an app now. But it's my understanding that you can post directly from your phone without resizing. If I'm wrong, then someone please explain. That feature may tip the balance on me getting a later iphone version. Otherwise I really have no need to upgrade

Thomas - in the test forum here I conducted just that experiment and it doesn't work without the resize app mentioned above. Rezing of photos is an app specific function - this is best explained by the Gmail app asking what size you want to send. Our forum does not have an app, that would look at the inbound file and resize it.

IMHO - I would not let the resizing of photos PUSH ME out of the iPhone market. Unlike android the OS, apps MUST meet criteria to make it into the app store. Droid is a free for all - anyone can develop and this even made the world news last week where Droid apps can have embedded features that track, your calls, location, what you type, listen to your calls and open your mic and camera w/o your knowledge.

Thanks, Ken. No, not leaving the iphone. Thought about upgrading to 5 or 6. I have a love-hate relationship with apple, but won't consider anything else.

Read this today. And am trying it for my Android..........when I go to the picture I select and it "slides' to different #s; i.e.; 3264 x 1836>1 x 0(0.0%) and then I press "save" where does the pic go for me to retrieve???
