PDF Manuals Problem

Postby AL Farmall Boy » Fri Mar 09, 2018 3:47 pm

On the Cub Owners Manuals........the 1975 (2-75) manual for the Cub will not print from the website or if you save it to your computer. It has something to do with the pdf file. It will either give several error messages or print blank pages. You can print a couple pages at a time, but it will not even let me print page 17 (for example) by itself. It stinks too because that is the best scanned version I've found for the square nose Cub on there. Most of them are really dark and poorer quality than that one. Anyone know what is going on with it?

I did a little checking, and apparently that being stored as a searchable pdf makes it very slow to print, at least if you have an older computer like mine. A searchable pdf not only has the document you view on the screen, but a searchable data file that is stored in the back ground, and your computer has to sort all of that out when printing, which takes time on an older slow one. My pc would print it, it just took forever. It would print 2 pages, pause a couple minutes, and print 2 more, pause, etc.I have been blaming that type operation when printing many of the manuals on the fact that my computer is approx. 9 years old and that pdf document is 331 MB in size
If you are not part of the solution,
you are part of the problem!!!

Chase, I believe there is a problem with that particular pdf file, in regards to pdf document page 17 (manual page 12). I opened that pdf file in both Adobe Reader and Adobe Acrobat, and neither will display that particular page (actually it displays a blank page). It could be a scaling issue with that particular page, but I am not certain.

John, I believe the file size of that particular pdf document is only 10.5 MB.

Yeah, its too bad too because it is such a good scan quality. Maybe it is time for everyone to pull together to start re-scanning manuals so they are all better quality and work correctly. I know I have a bunch of them that I've either sent someone to add or could be scanned and added (Farmall 140 owners manual for instance). I have found that you have to disassemble the manual and sometimes cut the center pages apart but once preserved, sacrificing one manual doesn't matter.

It is common sense to take a method and try it. If it fails, admit it frankly and try another. But above all, try something.
