RIP, Travels, plow dog

My 17 year old dog Travels got put down a week or so ago, she really loved to be around when fields got plowed. Seen here in this video by Bob Perry at the most beautiful place in Westport, MA the Poor Farm. I had her since I was 36 and she really loved to walk in the furrows and just be around anything farm related. She will always be around when I plow, harrow or stop by the Perrys for a BBQ or a Cubfest.

She was a rescue dog, brought to me as a gift from 2 UMass college girls who thought she would be a great addition to my farm and my life. She truly was! Good Girl!

The guy on the Cub is JimDawg (Jim/James Perry) and I am picking the icebergs out of the ground.

Jim grew up on the Westport River two or three houses down from the Poor Farm. This property is part of the Trustees of the Reservations protected places.

Chris - So sorry to hear about the loss of an old friend. That last day is the only bad day with a dog - I know, we've always had dogs, and it's a tough time. Here's a little story that I like - maybe you'll enjoy it too. It's called "Rainbow Bridge". Al D

CapeCodCubs, sorry to hear of your loss. We had to put down our poodle in February, and a cat last month. If you like to read, go to the library or bookseller and get a copy of "A Dog's Purpose ". It's a very good read.

Travels was a very good dog. Whenever Chris was coming over, I'd say "Make sure you bring Travels!" She was very loyal to Chris and was always great to have around.

Chris, I'm so sorry for your loss. Travels looked like a wonderful farm dog -- they are special friends. Seventeen years is a very good lifetime and I know you have a lot of great memories together.

Peace

Chris:

Sorry to hear of your loss, losing a pup is hard, they are members of the family. It has been a number of years now, but I still miss Spook. I know Travels will be with you into the future in your heart just as Spook is with me. (+)

Thanks Larry and Ed for being nice to her at Cubfests, she always liked to say hello and be friendly, she was an awesome guard dog and very protective. I never locked my house the whole time I had her, but if she knew you were a good person which she could tell easily enough, she would let her guard down. Glad you guys got to know her!

Hi Chris...I'm really sorry to hear of your loss. Anyone who tries to minimize the sadness felt when we have to say goodbye to a good loyal dog simply has never befriended a loyal dog!

We put down our Golden Retriever about 2.5 years ago, and it still makes me sad thinking about that day.

Sending best wishes from Pittsburgh!

Mike

Thanks Mike,
We put her down in the front yard near her bone and tennis ball collection. It was a sunny warm day, I held her and told her she was a really good doggie while the vet gave her a shot for her pain and then a shot to put her down. My vet is a very caring woman and that helped. Her tears made me realize how hard her job is at times. Your dog was lucky to have had a family that still thinks about their family dog. God Bless!
