Garage organization

Not nearly the size and scale of projects that some of you have put up, but this is what I got accomplished this weekend. I now have a bench, plenty light and loads of storage space!! Working off the floor was getting old quick!!

This is definitely not what I'm used to, or my starting point... With the recent move, I couldn't take my workbenches or most of my shop tools with me out here, so I bought this to get me by in my garage since I no longer have a barn in my gated townhouse community. After the shelves are emptied, it can be broken down in probably 10 minutes so it'll be easy to take to my next location. I also have shelving on the other side of the garage, but no tractor stuff over there!!

At the moment I can!! Not much in here to get lost!! I picked up the black bins at Lowes on clearance, they are heavy duty thick walled and are a hiding spot for the parts and pieces to keep things out of sight. After I get the rest of the 154 in here, I'm sure the organization will fall apart!!

Dave, I picked the shelving up at Lowes. What is in the pic is 8' tall and has 6' shelves. On my other wall is 8'x8'. The shelving and plywood you see run me about $600. A bit more than I wanted to spend, but the ease of setting up and reconfiguring and moving later won me over. Hammer and block of wood was all that was required for assembly. I went ahead and stained the wood black to keep from worrying about the inevitable oil, grease and hydraulic stains! They have one set you can buy in a box, or they have them piece meal so you can customize what you want. The manufacturer claims 2000 lbs per shelf, but I won't ever come close to testing those limits!

I've seen Bobs organization, I think he looses himself in his shop sometimes!!

Forgot to mention that's it's made in the USA as well!! After the post in the "off topic" a while ago, I've made a real effort to buy American made products, not everything, but I look and will spend a few extra bucks for the US merchandise when I can and it's available.

I had a cheap steel shelving unit collapse on be a few months back.... (with a box of parts of TC too high up ). I stopped at Lowes and got a pretty sturdy plastic one for $40 and some clear storage boxes. The shelves are rated at 200# each. Here is the surprise, everything I bought that day was made in the USA! The shelves are pretty stout compared with the steel one they replaced.

Very true!! Im already eyeing a big roll around tool box to fit in here somewhere....
The roll around cart in the photo I bought at the same time from Lowes, and it's made in the USA as well! That thing is really nice, rolls easy and is perfect for setting tools and parts on.
