made some yard art today

This was my Grandfathers old horse drawn disk that the gave me to pull behind my garden tractor around 40 years ago. sorry for the quality of first photo, but my cell phone does not have a very high quality camera and it was very overcast and hazy.



The rest are better, I used my good camera.


A little breezy as you can see in this photo.



I never thought to ask Grandpa where he got the disk or from whom, now it is about 30 years to late. It is unusual in that the levers move right and left rather than forward and backward.
also the disk can be spun around to throw dirt in or out, plus they can be be raised in the center to throw up a ridge or set level or float. There are no emblems, just a 3 digit number cast into the large pieces.

Very nice John. I don't remember ever seeing one like that and my father had lots of horse drawn stuff.

I too have never seen one like the one that you have. I have seen alot of old horse drawn equipment around this part of Tennessee. This was a very poor area, and they were slow to move to the tractors and modern equipment.

Very nice example of some fine old horse drawn equipment. I have a couple pieces from Em's grand father that we are going to use for yard art as well. I can think of no better application for them once they are no longer needed to work the fields. A nice retirement for them.

Thats how I found my cub 23A disc, with a 6 inch pine tree growing through it. My grandfather used it as lawn art long ago when he upgraded to bigger tractors but I couldnt let it sit there anymore and had to cut it out this year and use it.

Not too worried about the seat or the disk either one disappearing. the seat is a stamped one, not cast, and is about rusted to pieces. I had to weld a plate in it just to mount it, then mounted with impact wrench. As to the disk, I am half a mile off the highway with only one way to get in and out, plus the people in that neighborhood have a reputation for being pretty hard on prowlers. My biggest problem is loaning something to someone I only use occasionally and forgetting who I loaned it to. And them having it so long they forgot where they got it. I now have a notepad on the inside of the shed door for that.

I don't think you would want to once you looked at the seat. It is such bad shape that when you put some weight on it the metal bar/spring that supports the seat would probably remove any hemorrhoids you may have.
