1-point yard tool (soil pulverizer)

Got a project that you are working on that is not a tractor? Maybe a barn to hold your tractors or just fun stuff like woodworking, glass, tools, sheds, gardens, custom implements, etc., this is the place to talk about it.

1-point yard tool (soil pulverizer)

Postby Slim140 » Mon Jan 09, 2017 2:13 pm

I acquired this 6" I-beam about 10 years ago and had intentions of making an inverted wood splitter for the skidsteer and never did. We don't heat with wood for one thing and sold the skidsteer last year. Can't stand to borrow something more than once even though dad doesn't use his yard tool much I don't want to go get it and have to take it back etc. The I-beam is 72" long and I figured I may as well make it to fit the Cub 1-point hitch. I won't use it very often and it'll give the Cub some use when I do. Got a decent start on it, need to get a piece of pipe for the roller and a couple bearings and some 1" X 3" for the hitch.

Get that on there and you'll be like The Digging-est Dog: "I dug my way right through the town, I dug a lot of buildings down. I was having so much fun! I dug up Highway Eighty One."

I just weighed the I-beam with shanks and it's 180 lbs. so I am gonna guess and say total weight will be <350 lbs. Hopefully won't have any issues with lifting it since it will be near the hitch and not hanging way back like a disc.

Got some of the brackets welded on for the hitch and the roller assembly. They say the key to a nice weld is practice, I'll keep practicing.

Got the hitch sub-frame welded together. Decided to bolt the hitch on that way I can always make a 3 point hitch for it as well if we get a smaller tractor with 3 point hitch sometime, being only 72" wide it won't clean the tracks on the Ford 4630 we have now.

I am trying to find a piece of 4" pipe 6' long and a piece of 1" X 3" for the hitch. Hopefully won't be to long before it's complete.

Good morning, Chipmaker! It is always a delight to follow your projects! I would like to make a proposition: I think you need to host a "Show and Tell" sometime to let us watch you "do your thing!" Not many of us get a chance to see the kind of fabrication you have perfected, and I, for one, would love to see it! :worthy: I know there are quite a few forum members in your area who would probably enjoy a "Field Trip"!
