Home from Portland Tractor Show.

Postby Barnyard » Sun Aug 26, 2018 4:09 pm

Rosie and I had a great time at the Portland show this passed week. A lot of rain created a lot of mud. the vendors area was mostly impassable all week. It took us almost two hours to get my camper jacked up high enough to get blocks under the right rear tire to get it out of where we camped. The parking lot was a swamp as well. Other than the mud, everyone had a great time.

Joining us this year were Forum members Gary & Regina Dotson, Steve & Jackie Butram, Jeff & Janice Silvey, Larry & Cindy Gray, Jim (Redfin) & Kathy Foose, Glenn (Clownfish) & Brenda Posey, and Denny & Candy Clayton. Good times and good food the entire time.

Glenn and Brenda even had their new motorhome with them and enjoyed the camping. Glenn said they hope to be able to stay at more of the CubFests they attend in the future. We look forward to see them stay with us at the bash next year.

When Gary, Steve and I went to work in the parking lot Thursday morning to work in the parking lot we found this left behind from the day before. It never got out until some time Friday night.

Garry used my flail mower to cut some grass in the parking lot on Tuesday before the mud got stirred up.

As Bill said, we had a great time, despite the rain and mud. That parking lot was a lot more challenging than usual, though. We were very pleased to have the Posey's and the Foose's in attendance, just wish we could have given them better conditions for their first Portland show. I don't think it dampened their spirits though, they all seemed to have a great time! Every year is different at that show, usually weather related, but it's always good. Looking forward to next year!

We had a GREAT time at the show. Thanks to Gary, Regina, and Steve Butram for taking us under their wings and showing us the ropes (literally) since this was our first time in Portland. They met us when we arrived, led us to a camping spot, and then gave us golf cart tour of the show. The size of the show was hard to believe. My first time to see a traffic cop directing golf cart traffic.

Thanks Bill and we enjoyed your special “Georgia soft drinks.” It helped us get a good nights sleep. You guys certainly earned your keep by parking the trucks and trailers in the muddy parking lot.

I have been going to the show sense 1983, I have never seen it that muddy. I didn't even go to the swap area because I didn't need anything that bad. It was nice seeing new folks at the show. In the long run it was still fun.

We finally made it home from our trip to Portland and other stops. Thanks to all that made it such a nice time. In no special order Gary and Regina , Steve and Jackie , Glenn and Brenda and Bill and Rosie , Denny and Candy , and Glen the park manager. I can't add much to what the others have said except I want to give a special thanks for the excellent " dry " parking spot and for the golf cart rides throughout the show. It surprises me that I and others will tromp through deep , mucky mud and slop to get parts that would otherwise be costly to ship. For the most part the vendors stuck it out and dealt with it the best they could. Actually all that we needed to have a good time is each other.
