Wisconsin Minifest

Postby Hengy » Tue Aug 16, 2011 8:50 am

Hi all!

After discussing at length with Bill in WI, we are a GO for the 2nd annual fall Wisconsin Minifest in Tomah, WI.

Dates are Friday and Saturday, September 9 and 10. We have a couple projects lined up already, but would love to have more. I'll ask for a head count closer to the event to get an idea as to who will be coming officially. Bill's shop is really well set up and even better equipped, so if you have a project that needs tackling, this is the shop to visit!!

Projects thus far:

1. Unstick a front axle.
2. Complete tune-up
3. Governor slop repair.
4. Potential TC rebuild. (not for certain yet)

These projects can be done in tandem, so we have plenty of room for more work! If you have something that is pressing and really needing some assistance, please bring it!!! It will be great to see everyone again.

Mods, if you could let this thread here for a day before moving to the Announcements forum where it really belongs, I would appreciate it so it gets a little bit of visibility temporarily...

As the song goes... "see you...in September!"

The address for the Mini Fest is 28654 Honeycomb Ave. Tomah, WI

The Honeycomb sign on HWY CA was stolen again. A yearly thing. There is a home made Honeycomb sign there until the town replaces it. I will have my CUB signs up again so no one should have trouble finding it. Here is a link to a map:

Also there is room to camp if anyone is interested.

Hey Bill,
Maybe as a fest project we could electrify that new sign and pole, for the next thief that try's to steal it?

Mike, I'd like to bring my tractor to replace the magneto drive seal, but I'm uncertain regarding attendance since we will be just returning from vacation and the kids start school. Do you need to know asap or could it be a last-minute thing? I'd say odds are about 25% I could come.

Interestingly, I mowed for an hour today and the leak stopped when the oil level dropped to 1/2 way between the full and low mark on the dip stick. still plenty of oil and oil pressure. So maybe it doesn't need replaced as urgently as I thought.

Hi Todd...

No need to make "reservations" for the fest. If you come over, we'll look it over together and get as much done on it as we can. It will be better when you leave than when you got there! We'll have a hand crank to use for timing, etc if you need it. I understand that it is a tough time of year, but if you can make it, you'll have a blast.

Just let me know that week if you can make it, and we'll have enough food for you. The hotel situation in Tomah isn't that dire that you won't be able to find a place, and if you want to camp, Bill's place is a great place to pitch a tent!!

Mike, I've got a 15 to 20 foot 1 inch bar, do you think that will give us enough leverage to get Merlin's axle loose? Although it might stick out the back of my truck a little bit and be hard to haul.

I'm thinking that taking the axle off the tractor and using the Willer method...two jacks with posts in between might be in order on this one. I am nervous about putting a pipe wrench on it any more because it might collapse on itself and leave me out in the cold without a knee to replace it. However, I am open to anything at this point!!

Update...we might have a different cub to look at at this fest, too... More information to come shortly!!
