Farmall Cub

Ok, it's not really cub related, but you guys are the only guys I know who know anything about this. We have a 54 Chevy Bel-Air. 6 volt. We couldn't get it charging, took off the generator and took it to get it tested and it shows ok. When it's running the guage shows a dis-charge. The generator only has 2 post for wires to connect. I've heard that what you do is actually polarize the generator not the regulator? What do I need to do? We bought a new battery and were going to try to get it going tonight. Thanks Brandon.

Brandon, you need to momentarily apply battery voltage (hot side) to the generator armature. This will either be marked A for armature or G for generator somewhere on the body near one of the terminals. We do this with a short jumper wire, just touching the ends to each appropriate location. This is easily done at the voltage regulator since it has terminals connected to the armature (generator output) and to the battery hot terminal.
There should be a spark when you make contact. Once you see the spark, it is polarzed.

do you do this when its running?

no - engine off and before you start it after replacement of either the generator or regulator.
