CHALMERS B RADIATOR FLUID LEAK

Postby Clem » Fri Jun 09, 2006 4:52 pm

My B has a leak between the fan pulley and engine. Sometimes it is a drip other times it is steady. Is the pump bad or is it something else? How can I properly diagnose the problem and repair it?

thanks.

I guess the pump packing or seals are worn and leaking.

If you can't fix it with a hammer, you've got an electrical problem.

If its the water pump, can I remove it and have them rebuilt or should I just buy a new?

If you have an Agco dealer close they can tell you. I would try to find a rebuilt pump if possible. Kits are about $65 and replacement pumps around $100 on the ytmag site.

how do I know if its the seals or the pump? Can I replace the seals first and see if its fixed and if not reuse the seals when I replace the pump?

There are some dyes that you can add to the system and then trace the leak. Check with a good auto parts store or check with a mechinic if you know someone who works at a repair shop.

If you get a rebuilt waterpump it will have new seals. Get a rebuilt water pump.

Valu-bilt has one listed for a B for $79.79. Autoparts stores also carry tractor waterpumps.
