Update Wisconson VH-4

Postby Eugene » Sat Jul 15, 2006 10:31 pm

Solved the fuel supply problem. Then engine ran only with 3/4 choke.

Conducted vacuum test. 16 inches steady. Don't have the specs for vacuum. Thought that was low - should be 20 to 24 inches of mercury.

Reconducted compression test on hot engine. 90, 90, 90, 45 to 50. Compression was 90, 90, 90, 85 cold. Valve problem. Pulled head. Could find nothing obvious. Seats and valve faces stained but not burned or distorted. Valve tappet set to tight. Lapped the valves on problem cylinder. Readjsted all tappets.

Findings to date.
1) Tappets were set from zero clearance to .020 +
2) Head bolts had a stack of washer under the head of the bolts.
3) Rotors are on intake valves.
4) One of the cylinders is pumping oil.
5) Very minor ring groove.
6) Head was machined on last overhaul.

At this point, my son who owns the skidsteer, thinks we should pull the motor for a complete tear down.
