Battery for a Silver King

Postby dracer398 » Mon Aug 07, 2006 9:19 pm

Last weekend I met a gentleman with a 1946 Silver King Tractor. He told me that he wants to cut the bottom out of his gas tank and reshape it so a standard 6v battery will fit in the origional battery box under the tank. I told him that I thought that that was a little drastic! He said that he couldn't find a 6v anywhere that measured 8"or less from the top of the posts to the bottom of the battery. So I thought that I'd bring the question up on our forum. Does anyone know where such a battery might be purchased? I know that there is an abundance of knowlege on this sight and it grows with each new member.

Thanks in advance,
Brian

Brian:

Darn nice tractor.. not my favourite, but nice anyways..

Plugged 6 volt Group 1 Battery Sizes into Google and here is what I got:

6 Volt Motorcycle Batteries They are in Florida.

19L I-19L 440 120 6 65 8-1/4 x 6-5/8 x 7-3/8 25 45 auto- top post

This is a Interstate I-19L 6 volt battery. It may qualify.

I also sent an email to Exide to see what they have...

Optima has one that popped up in page 2 of the search string..

It is for a classic car etc. It is 10.25"L x6.75"W x8.0"H in size .. that should fit??

Will look a little more tonight.

I hope this helps..

Brian, Has he contacted other SK owners to see what they did? The website sounds like there is a registry of owners. Someone else must have already solved the problem.

I have seen the battery he needs but not for a long time. I'd guess someone still makes them but it's gonna be hard to find.

If you can't fix it with a hammer, you've got an electrical problem.

Thanks again Guys! I Knew I could count on you all! Rudi I think you hit the Jack Pot!

Bob- he's had the tractor for 25+ years and is now just getting excited about it. He hasn't talked to any other SK owners yet. He doesn't get on the internet much. He's a little old fashion. He's 70 years young! Still like a Big kid just a little slower... :)

Big Dog, I trust that the color of this tractor repels the High Tech Cub Finder... I figure this tractor is safe... :P It was built in Plymouth OH.

Thanks again,
You ALL are the Best!!! :!: :!:
