If you add the average shipping cost to the buy-it-now price you can go to TSC and buy virtually the same splitter.

I own a Swisher brand 44 inch mower and it works fine.

I'd agree with BigDog. I have a splitter I bought from my local TSC store. Pretty much the same splitter as pictured (Pretty much all brands as MTD, HUSKY, etc are the same now anyway just a different color scheme and decals) and I paid about $400 less than what is listed plus I was able to drive less than 20 minutes away to pick it up at the store.

Of course I haven't priced them lately (I bought mine last year) and since the weather is getting colder, seasonal items are somewhat higher than they would be say during the summer?

I'd be willing to bet you could find a comparable item at a TSC store, Lowes or Home Depot providing you have one near you.

NorthernTool has a number of wood splitters. Lowest list price in catalog is $899-. I would look around and buy locally.

Earl has the Speeco model 20 some tonner bought at TSC about 3-4yrs ago and the man has put literally a million cycles on it and it has performed flawlisly. He uses his all yr around and this time of yr almost daily. It was under $1000.00.
