This picture was on redpowermagazine. anyone know what the attachemnt is? Appears to be pto driven.

Some body's home made tedder backed up over something with 4 cickle bars layed on it. He don't forget i am a city boy, but that is my guess. I see the trailer hitch to the draw bar and the PTO is hooked up.

Looks like some kind of windrow inverter, but why would the farmer be going to do hay in a coat and gloves with the trees bare? I've wore a coat in the hayfield in the fall, but the trees still had leaves

Ok John you had two of us guess. We were not too far apart either. A tedder and a windrow inverter come close together. Only my way you had to rake again.
It has been tearing me up waiting for responses. Well what is it please?

Myself I don't know. The item was in the redpowermagazine.com coffeshop forum. I saw several responces, but the ones that appeared most likely, and most aurthorative is that it is a hemp turner. IH made quite a bit of equipment for handling hemp during the war, and one of the posters said it was in the book about the hemp equipment. Unfortunatley there seems to be a problem at the redpower coffeeshop, can't access itat present.

Ok I guess hemp was like linen you rot the rest off to get at the fibers. You would do that similar to what we thought, Tedding and Wind row turning. If you ever do find out let us know.
Grow hemp today and you have a problem.

If you notice in the far side of the picture, there is a space in the tray just behind the wheel. I would guess that it is an implement for combining 2 or more windrows of crop together. :idea:

It would likely turn it over at the same time. (Maybe :?:

)

John, You've located a rare piece of history. That's BigDog's original Cub finding device being towed out to begin searching for Cubs for the very first time. Such things were much bigger before modern electronics and not quite as portable as his current hand-held model.

Might be possum collector, but tractor is H. Look at the steering wheel shaft. On an M it's closer to horizontal.

O.K. Guys...You caught Ol' Country!!! You're right...It's a photo of my MUCH younger brother Ezra (on his 50 H) hooking up our custom-made Possum Picker. Ezra drives out on the "paved" city road and gathers up about as many fresh-kilt possums as he can. The little guys are conveyored on that flat shoot around to the other side where I catch them in a feed sack. When the sack is filled...I throw the sack into the pickup and get a fresh sack. With all the kin we've got to make possum pie for fer Christmas :wink:
