I am looking for information on the MM/Avery V tractors and also need a front axle for the one I have-- SN 4V691-- or good ideas to repair it. The break is at the center pivot. The axle is C shaped in design with the open side toward the rear of the tractor. I have been told that it is pressed steel so I might be able to have it welded. Any pictures would be great. Thanks, Stan

Re: BF Avery V
Repair update: Got the axle welded and the repair went well, reinforced along the bottom with a 1 1/2 angle and 1 inch flatbar made into a channel. Now I'm looking for some ideas on attaching a drawbar to pull a trailer. Was one available when the tractor was new? What did it look like? All ideas welcome. Stan

Re: BF Avery V
I'm thinking that your Avery tractor was the same as a Cletrac "General" which was an off-shoot of the Cletrac HG Crawler. Landes Zimmerman at www.olivercletrac.com may be able to help Identify the parts needed. I have some HG parts, but have only seen a few generals and averys and wasn't paying that much attention to the drawbars.

Re: BF Avery V
The Avery "A" is the same (basically) tractor as the Cletrac General. The Avery "V" is a smaller, wide front tractor about the same size as a Farmall Cub, and was built for the same marlet as the Cub. The General was designed by B.F. Avery and built by Cletrac as a tractor to use the B.F. Avery Tru-Draft emplements. Avery aquired the righte to the general and started buildit as the Avery A in the early 40's.

Yes, the V had a draw bar. Attached are some pictures of the drawbar mounted on a tractor. The bar is 1-3/4" wide, 1" thick. The thickness is reduced (from the top side) to 9/16" thick where it bolts into the front mount that is bolted to the front of the trans axle. The bar is 36" long and the draw pin hole in the rear of the bar is 7/8" diameter. Click on the pictures to enlarge them.

Re: BF Avery V
staninlowerAL,
I forgot to add, that drawbar does not "sit level" like the bar on other tractors, but is angled, with the front being higher than the rear. It had to do with their B.F. Avery line of "Tru-Draft" implements.

Re: BF Avery V
Thanks Paul, I noticed that when I checked the pictures closely. I looked at my tractor and found that the anchoring point at the trans is intact. I will need to make the drawbar piece and the supporting bracket that attaches to the frame and supports the rear end of the drawbar. I might even get lucky and find one or parts of one at a show one day. I do not know of another one anywhere in my area. There was a couple at the Midsouth Flywheelers show last year. Stan

That is not the same set up as the draw bar on my Avery V. I tried to load picture but could not get it done.

Re: BF Avery V
muleboss,
What is different about the drawbar setup on your's? The pictures I posted are from one of the first 60 B.F. Avery "V's" built, and it is basically the same as any "V" I have seen.
