corn sheller?

Postby curtisvowen » Wed Feb 09, 2011 10:04 am

My wife likes to drag home things for me to repair. The latest is a freestanding manual operated corn sheller.
Are they worth foolin' with?
There's no paint, I can't i.d. the model/make etc. by looking for stampings on the iron.
Needs new saddle bearings and some minor wood replacement.
What's folks do with em?
I'd like to repair it, but I'm really curious about the make/model.
Any website out there that I havn't found?
Thanks,

Ebay has quite a few listed, you might scroll through those and see if anything is close. There is also "The Encyclopedia of American Farm Implements and Antiques" by C.H. Wendel that has about 20 pages of shellers. If you can post some pictures, there's also a chance someone might recognize it.

They work well for shelling field corn sized ears. Pop corn - the throat is to small. If you have black walnuts and the throat is adjustable, you can hull walnuts.
I have an excuse. CRS.

Around here they go for $25-$75. I have one for the kids to play with at the shows.

The one I have was sold by Mc Cormic Deering and does have adjustable ear size hold down, so it will do popcorn or other small diameter ears. thanks; sonny
