Does anyone have any experience replacing tachometers? The tach on the 340 utility I recently purchased is frozen internally. I've tried Kroil, even took it apart, but it's frozen within it's internal mechanism. I've read that Bates Company rebuilds them for something like $125, which sounds very expensive. And considering I've already got mine apart and can't free it up - can't help but wonder if it's worth trying to fix.
Has anyone any experience with aftermarket tachs? I've heard one is available that looks just like the IH original for about $60. I suppose another option is a used on from somewhere like JP Tractor.
I'd appreciate hearing any experiences on any of these options. Thanks.

I've seen the replacement tachs, put one on a 300U a while back. It's very close to the origional one. The main difference that I've noticed is the bezel is slightly different. They can be bought for under $100. I recently got a price quote for rebuilding origional one for a 350U, price was $175. Try valu-bilt.com or bates.com . My 2003 T.H.E. Company catalog lists one for a 340 for $49.95, probably a little higher now. If none of these help send me an email, I know of a local supplier that keeps them for most IH models.

Thanks Dave, I'll check out an aftermarket from T.H.E. - I need to order some things from them anyway. I had looked on their web page, but couldn't find tachs for my 340. I'll give them a phone call.
