Lest someone gets the wrong idea, the engine is the same size Continental as an Allis G but they do not interchange.

Thanks for the information. From what I had heard others say and what I had read, I did have the impression that they used the same engine.

It's my understanding the starters mount differently. One mounts on the rear engine flange and the other mounts to the bell housing. That would be a question to ask on either the Allis or Massey list.

As you can see I am new to this forum, but I've been Spying for a long time...(well you know, i'm shy)
And I am french too, so I logicaly own A french Farmall Cub.
let's talk about ponies.

as Rudy (hello) said, ponies where canadian machines, but (as cubs were) they were built in france too until middle of the 60's. Of course there were a few differences between the both sides of ocean versions. Such as the motor: french ponies had a SIMCA ou PEUGEOT engine. there was also a diesel version (very funy machine with a two strokes HANOMAG engine).
3 pts hitches version whas also aviable for the latters years.
Pony was a so popular machine here in britany, that people over 40 call every small red tractor a "pony", even the ones with an offset motor

Yesterday I remembered that our friend Larry has a Pony and also an Allis G in his shop. I sent him a note last night asking for confirmation. This is his reply...

As usual you are right on the difference. The engines are
the same series but different blocks. There is no starter mount at all on
the engine of the Pony. The starter is mounted to the bell housing. While
the G block has a rather large starter mount cast into the block. I'm pretty
sure the internals will interchange though. I can't tell about the oil pump.

Thanks all for the excellent Pony info.

I went back over to Bisbee yesterday..didn't take my trailer and glad I didn't. That guy says he talked to his son who owns the tractor and he wants $1500. now. I knew I had a reputation as being a "tractor turkey", but I didn't expect word had reached all the way to Bisbee, AZ

I'm going to just stick with Cubs. When I get Cubs all figured out then I might look at a Pony

The Allis and Pony engines have different heads as well, the G has a channel along the head for the fan shaft to run, and they use different thread sizes for the plugs.
