Kubota B7100

I'm thinking about getting a good condition 4wd Kubota B7100 and using it with a 4 foot brush hog to keep some field mowed.

Any thoughts about these older Kubota tractors?

I've had mine since 1992 with a 5 foot belly mower. It's 4 wheel drive and I used to have 4 1/2 acres with half of that in hillside and it handled that pretty good. I have since sold that land but still use it to do some work around my 5 1/2 acres of flat land I have now (my Cubs do most of the mowing now). It has had a new head gasket on it and it is showing some wear all around but has been pretty dependable.

I think one with a 4 foot mower would do just fine.

My '86 B7200HST has been wonderful, replaced a tach drive and a radiator cap since I've had it ('93) Have thrown much more money at the Kubota belly mower

There were two versions of the B7100, early & late. When the 7100 was replaced by the 7200, it was discontinued for a while. I've heard different reasons why, but a short time later, it was re-introduced. While basically the same tractor, there were several upgrades to the later version. I think (but not sure) that all late version models are hydro-static. You need to know which version you are looking at. Either will do the job, but late ones are worth a good bit more.
I've had one mechanical issue on my B6200, the splines in the clutch disc failed at about 500 hrs. It apparently wasn't properly heat treated, no issues with the replacement. I've been running that tractor for 20 years this month! No mechanical issues with my B6200 HST in three years using it. My B8200 was abused in it's earlier life and required a ring job to set it straight. It's only used for tilling & plowing snow so it gets minimal use.
I think that B7100 will work fine for you.

Gary is correct about the early and late versions B7100. Mine is the later version. It is hyrdrostat and is actually called a B7100HST. The hydrostat is pretty smooth and pulls good.
