A local community near me is starting a volunteer fire dept. They have a tanker with a Wisconscin engine to power the pump. Model Thd. They need a starter for it. Anyone know where we might find one or maybe an engine they could buy? Any info would be appreciated.

Billy Ray - try the Small Engine Warehouse at http://www.smallenginewarehouse.com/

If they don't have it they can probably steer you in the right direction.

Wisconsin instruction book and parts list shows 6 different starters. 3 different 6 volt and 3 different 12 volt starters. They are all Prestolite starters. You will need to provide the model, specification and serial numbers to come up with the starting motor.

My first place to check would be the auto parts store. Then your local small engine shops. And last, there are a number of Wisconsin dealers in Florida.

The THD is rated at 10 hp at 1600 RPMs and 16.8 hp at 3600 RPMs.

My Wisconsin manuals are dated 1969. 40 plus year old engine. Just guessing. Finding a rebuilt starter (new condition) will cost $150- to $200-. Fire Department equipment - more reliable and cost effective to purchase a new 16 to 20 hp engine.

after some research and good advice, I think you are right, Eugene. I had no idea replacement parts would be so high. Thanks,
