Great site-with lots of info!! Wish I had some of the accessories they sold back then!!

Maybe this brochure info/serial tag info should be archived in case the site disappears?

The trailer pictured below has the same brackets in the bed as my trailer had when I first saw it. When I bought it six months later the po had started to remove the brackets.

Here is how mine looked when I bought it. You can see some of the angle iron is still in it. I'm curious what those brackets were for.

I am wondering if the trailer in the upper photo is my trailer. When I first saw mine it was at a jeep swap meet. Obviously the owner of the one in the upper photo is into Jeeps also.

I believe there was a posting some time back that pointed to that website. If memory serves me right some one from that site is now a member here.

Interesting! You never know where your pictures are going to end up online! I just had to go out and look at the thread you referenced and it is weird to see my trailer out there online!

Mike in La Crosse, WI

Is it me, or does the IH Trailer look longer than the DB Trailer... Since these are so similar to each other, any idea who made these trailers? Did IH make them and rebrand them for others, including DB, or did DB make them and brand them for IH?

Very nice researching on this line of trailers. We of the DB groups and other collectors of the line have known about the Dunbar-Kapple thing for yrs, as they also made the first of the hauling carts for the garden tractor line. 231-387, is known to us as the Gen 1 cart, 231488 is the Gen 2 cart. Sometime about 1953-55, DB started making the carts them selves thus the Gen 3 carts tag read 917.5765. The one i just got from Brad is 917.59111 and was made starting in 1959. There are a couple more Dunbar #'s but i cant think of them right now. The IH cart brad had on his trailer looked a lot like the DB farm cart, but was longer. As i only collect the DB line in gardening equipment I havent looked much into areas we would call farm machinary.

On the wheels, or rims as DB guys call them. Any rim can be dated by the number coding found inside the bead area. Sometimes its rusted off and gone, but it was there. I have personally found rims from F&H, Firestone, Clevweld, and Electic wheel on a lot of DB tractors. Most of the older tractors were sold with 3 hole rims, that were excatly the same as the 5 holed ones, minus the 2 holes. The largest % of rims came from Electic wheel of Quincy ,IL, who also made most of the DB wagon gears. There are at least 8 differnt versions of the DB rims found from 1947-67. In talking with an old plant engineer several yrs ago, at one of the TOTFS shows held at Kankakee,IL, he stated that rims knew no attachment. Meaning that if they were short of one kind, another would be used so they could ship the bundle. A bundle was how one brought all DB equipment, whether it be a garden tractor, or a plow, or a hayrake, etc.
